A calorie is not a calorie

Calories have been the most accepted measure of food.

But calories hardly denote any nutritional value of the food.

A calorie is a unit of energy. And measuring food only on the basis of energy is such an incomplete measure. For eg. a slice of your favourite pastry (approx 100gm) packs 200 calories but without any nutritional value.

As you can see, most of these calories are coming from sugar (empty calories) and devoid of Micronutrients (vitamins & minerals).

Compare that to a 2 whole egg omelette with a fresh cut fruit like strawberry which has a balanced macro (proteins, fats, carbs) and micro nutrients (vitamins and minerals) profile while still being equivalent to approx 200 calories.

So, as they say, "Don't judge a book by its cover". Similarly, "Don't judge the food only by its calories"
