Macros & Blood Glucose
There is no better illustration of the impact of macronutrients on your body than a blood glucose response graph.
As you can see, consumption of carbohydrates (even the complex ones) results in a faster increase in blood glucose levels followed by a quick drop, best known as a "sugar crash" 💣- the quick energy boost followed by a loss of energy and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels).
Additionally, the spike in blood glucose level leads to a spike in Insulin, which is the fat storage hormone. When you get a rapid rise and fall, your body senses this and takes steps to correct it. In a healthy person this should involve the release of glucagon. However, your body also knows that an easy solution is to eat again and eat things that are sweet and/or starchy. This is what makes carb based diets so damn difficult.
On the contrary, the blood sugar response with proteins and fats is gradual leading to longer satiety. Also, they aren't converted to glucose as much as carbs creating lesser demand on insulin. 🤝
